TOPSHAM St James Under-11 were involved in a thrilling game with Whimple, one that went right down to the wire. Batting first, Martin Cull and Jim Shepherd put on 15 for the first wicket before Cull departed. Shepherd went on to carry his bat for a magnificent contribution to the cause when he walked off at the close of the innings with 22 to his name in a total of 73.With such a low score on the board it needed a disciplined show with the ball, and that is just what the Saints bowlers, and, in particular, Max Mitchell, served up.Mitchell bowled an excellent line and length to claim richly deserved figures of 3-13.Mitchell also found time to take a very neat return catch off his own bowling.Joe Beauchamp bowled economically and he too held a smart catch. Cameron Robinson bagged a brace of wickets as did Tom Sage whilst Chris Richardson had a fine game behind the stumps, and, it was only off the 3rd ball of the final over that Whimple secured victory.
