TOPSHAM St James bowler Adrian Miller had an afternoon to remember on Saturday.
Playing for the Saints in their Francis Clark E Division game at Culmstock, Miller claimed all but two of the host clubs wickets to finish with the astonishing figures of 8.3 overs, three maidens and eight wickets for just ten runs!
Miller claimed the first five home wickets to fall and then removed batsmen seven, nine and ten.
His efforts have set a new mark for the Bonfire Field Club as he broke the previous best return of eight wickets for 13 runs by Peter Cotterill in a match against Cockington back in 1987!
It was Jalitha Perera who picked up the other two Culmstock wickets as he returned figures of 2-31 from his eight overs.
The home side’s total time at the wicket took up just 25.2 overs!
In the reply, Jalitha Perera and 13-year-old Tom Richardson set off at a cracking pace and were 47 without loss after just five overs.
Jalitha was out with the score on 62, having made 32 off just 26 deliveries as he spanked five 4s and one huge six. Young Richardson went on to finish unbeaten on 23 from only 29 balls faced as the Saints raced to an eight wicket win in one ball shy of 16 overs to claim the maximum 20 points.
The contest was all done and dusted at 4.11pm at which point both sides enjoyed a splendid Mid Devon tea before the Saints returned to Bonfire Field to take in the post tea session in the 2nd XI meeting with North Devon.
This coming weekend, the side makes the short trip into Exeter to play Civil Service.
