Topsham St James Under-10s soft-ball pairs team were worthy winners in their latest Bradleys East Devon Youth league match against Alphington.

The young Saints were impressive with the bat, posting a terrific 309, the same as they had scored in their previous outing against Kenn!

Charlie Dack and Rio Turl got the innings off to a sensible start taking the score to 224.

Tom Day and Oliver Isard ran extremely well between the wickets to take the total to 249 at the halfway stage.

The real impetus to the innings came when Henry Harris (13) and Marcus Kay (28) were together and it was left to Josh Cunningham and Julen Lippeman, batting very well against the opposition’s top two bowlers, to see the side to a close of 309.

The Topsham bowlers kept it really tight and sent down only 17 wide’s or no balls. None of the bowlers went for more than 11 runs from their two overs.

With Alphigton’s last pair at the crease and on 240, the win was there for the taking especially with their top batters at the wicket!

Julen Lippeman claimed a smart caught and bowled before a brilliant catch by Charlie Dack and a run-out, were added to with another Lippeman wicket as the reply floundered to close on 240-6 leaving the Saints as deserved victors.
