WOODBURY under-11 hard ball pairs were involved in a real thriller when they played at Ottery St Mary with the game being decided on the very last ball of the contest.

The hosts batted first and closed on 164, losing just the one wicket, taken by Alex Manning.

Harry Peters and Callum McCrock (19), Thomas Gardiner and Zach Hawes (17), and the pairing of Tom Conway and Elliot Culling (20), were the key contributors to the Ottery total.

Woodbury then reached the final over of the game looking for four to win.

Zach Hawes was the Ottery bowler and three runs were taken from the very first delivery however the next four were bang on the money and the final ball was sent down with the visitors needing two to win, but the stumps were knocked over leaving Ottery winners!

Tom Bird and brother William scored 15 whilst Tom O'Shea and Sam Corney put on 30 and the combination of Rory Haddow and Gwyn Parks produced 18 runs.

For Ottery, both Harry Peters and Luke Tierney were single wicket takers but the star of the show was young Hawes who, with that last ball wicket, completed a fivefer and finished with figures of 5-14.

The other wicket to fall was the result of a splendid direct hit from an Ottery fielder.
