There was a superb game of cricket, and some first class hospitality, taken in by the guests of Ashfords Solicitors who were at the Maer ground, Exmouth to see Somerset and The Unicorns go head to head.

Cricket fans from across the South West flocked to Exmouth on Sunday to watch

the ECB Unicorns play the Somerset Sabres in the Clydesdale Bank 40.

The Unicorns, an ECB Recreational XI run by The Minor Counties, lost to Somerset

by 3 wickets.

Devon County Cricket Club and Exmouth Cricket Club assisted The Minor Counties

in staging the Unicorns fixture at Exmouth.

As the premier partner of Devon CCC, Ashfords Solicitors hosted an exclusive VIP

Marquee on the boundary, with local business people and dignitaries from across

the South West as well as past players and members of the Minor Counties, Devon,

Cornwall and Somerset Committees.

Guests enjoyed an excellent game of cricket with delicious food prepared by

Exeter based Bon Gout, and liquid refreshment provided by Otter Brewery and

Tolchards (both partners of Devon CCC).

Ashfords’ guests included the Earl Of Devon, ex-England and Lancashire fast

bowler Peter Lever, Active Devon Chief Executive Neil Roberts, and David

Fursdon.

The event also helped raise nearly £800 for the David Shepherd Memorial Fund and

Academy.

Jamie Horner, Partner and sports specialist at Ashfords, said: “It was

wonderful that such a high profile match was staged at Exmouth and that so many

people attended the game.

“The Unicorns have surprised many people with the high quality of the cricket

that they have played this season, including the first class counties that they

have beaten, but high-flying Somerset ultimately proved to be to much for them

on this occasion.

“As Devon County Cricket Club’s premier partner, we were delighted to support

the event, and the David Shepherd Memorial Fund and Academy that the Club has

recently established, by hosting the VIP Marquee. “
