CLYST St George climbed out of the bottom two of the B Division with a Chris Ferro inspired four wicket win over rivals Cockington.

In one of those classic, ‘do or die’ matches, Clyst produced the goods at precisely the right time to restrict Cockington to 156-9 and then pass that score for the loss of six wickets.

Ferro was the inspiration, first taking six wickets to finish with figures of 6-40, with Paul Richardson bagging a brace, and then Ferro used his bat to great effect, top scoring with 62 to lead the side to a priceless 19 point haul.

With Bideford losing to Brixham and banking just nine points, it put the Bohea Field men up to third bottom.

There are two to play with three sides locked in the scrap to avoid slipping into the C Division.

Clyst have two to play, hosting Barnstaple this weekend and then travelling to champions-in-waiting, Shobrooke Park, on the final day. Bideford travel to Chudleigh this weekend before a last day relegation dog-fight with Cockington and the latter face Chagford this Saturday before hosting that ‘loser goes down’ meeting with Bideford.

With their two rivals clashing a week on Saturday to bring the curtain down on the campaign, it is clear that Clyst need to bank a decent haul of points this weekend against Barum to give themselves a fighting chance of taking their great escape bid to the final day.
