East Devon U13 District XI beat the County U12s in a 45-over game played at Ottery St Mary.

Batting first the county got off to a great start with openers Dan Escott and Will Sobczak 'retiring' with the total on 85.

The introduction of the spinners slowed the run rate down. Sam Loud, 1-13 from his eight overs, gave great support to spinner Ben Hancock, who sent down eight and claimed 2-7.

Tom Richardson (24) helped the innings along and at the close of their 45 overs the County XI had 177-8 on the board.

At 55-4 the East Devon reply was looking troubled, but Loud (33) and Charlie Watson (37no) added 57 for the fifth wicket. Dillon Penberthy (19ret), Alex Eggleton (13ret) and George Biggs (15no) finished the chase.

Despite the winning margin being reached, the District XI continued to bat out their 45 overs and ended the game on 212-7, Sam Wyatt-Haines (3-35) being the most successful of the county side's bowlers.

East Devon coach Steve Loud said: "It was a good work out, although I don't think it was an 85-0 track and that tells me we need to do some work yet, especially on early line and length.

"Once the boys settled into the game they did very well.

"I would also like to thank Ottery St Mary CC for allowing us to use the facilities, including their splendid new changing accommodation.
