RALEIGH launched their league campaign at home to Stoke Gabriel knowing that, with just five teams in the section this season, winning home games is a priority.

The visitors won the toss and elected to bat on what was soon to prove a low and slow wicket and the home side's strike bowler Matt Tarvey made the best of the conditions to devastating effect, whipping out the visitors' top three batsmen, all clean bowled.

Andrew Buzza (1-23) and Stuart Hart (1-19) provided further support and the outfielding was energetic with Danny Lowman and Dave Codling both very lively.

An inspired spell of bowling by the consistent Mark Davis (4-12) really put the skids under the batting team, leaving them with a total of 110 all out.

Chasing a low total, Raleigh struggled with the accuracy of the visitors' opening bowlers and were in real trouble with half the side out and just 20 runs on the board, but a fluent and entertaining partnership of 62 between Lloyd Loman (25) and Andrew Buzza (39) helped get the reply back on track. When both Loman and Buzza went in quick succession and overs running out, it looked like Raleigh might throw the victory away but Mark Davis came in to steady the reply and he scored the runs to complete a thrilling league win.
