Exe SC member, Budleigh Salterton sailor Ben Cornish is currently racing in Scandinavia.

Cornish is in action at the Sailing World Championships being held at Aarhus, Denmark where he is competing for the Finn class top title.

Speaking to the Journal at the conclusion of day six of racing (the championships got under way on July 31 and continue through until August 13) he said: “The championships are now well under way.

“I’ve got off to a solid start and am currently lying two points off the overall lead, which is a nice place to be.

“We have raced in a real mix of conditions and I am pleased with how I am racing. The venue is challenging; many of the race areas are close to the city and the wind is quite unstable and hard to read.”

He continued: “The standard of competition has certainly been raised by everyone. The margin between everyone inside the top 10 is extremely close. Four more races are scheduled for the championships ahead of the double point medal race on Thursday.

“I’m in a good place right now, but with the points so close it really is anyone’s worlds to win. I will take it day by day till the end and let’s see how it plays out. I’ll ceratinly be giving it my best shot.”

We wish Ben all the very best in his bid to be the Finn class world champion.
