WOODBURY emerged as 48 run winners when they met Whimple in a Bradley’s East Devon Youth League, under-12 encounter.
After winning the toss Woodbury opted to bat and were able to close on 90-9 after their twenty overs.
It was a fourth wicket partnership of 41 between Michael Cooper (30ret’d) and William Bird (11) that gave the total some substance.
Young Cooper hit four 4s in his innings. Gwyn Parkes hit a brace of 4s in a knock of 12 and Jacob Maclellen struck two 4s in his cameo innings of 13.
It took Woodbury less than 13 overs to end the Whimple spell with the bat, their final wicket falling on 48. Tom O`Shea (3-11), Connall Deehan-Jackson (3-10) and Ben Abrahams (3-19), were the chief architects of the Whimple downfall.
An impressive feature of the Whimple time with the bat was the catching of the Woodbury fielders who, between them, held half a dozen catches.
Cooper, Parkes, Tom Bird, Zac Maclellen and Ben Matten all held catches in the outfield whilst Deehan-Jackson held a smart return catch off his own bowling.
