Clyst St George remain in a relegation spot in the C Division after a narrow defeat to promotion chasing Axminster, writes Mark Briggs.

Batting first the home side’s inspiration came from the bat of May who scored an impressive unbeaten 76.

The supporting acts came from Cooper, Rayner and Taylor as Clyst closed on 216-7.

Sadly that was not quite enough to land the side a third success of the season as the visitors got home, but only just as they had their last pair at the crease when the wining line was crossed!

Johnson claimed a three wicket haul and there were two wickets each for Cook and Welland.

The defeat leaves the Bohea Field men 17 points from safety with only Yelverton below them in the table on 75 points to the 82 that Clyst have mustered to date.

On Saturday Clyst travel to Kingsbridge who sit on the fringe of the promotion race.
