Exmouth secured a seventh win of the Premier Division season with a four wicket triumph at home to second bottom Cornwood.

The visitors were put in and dismissed for 182 with no fewer than six different Maer men bowlers claiming wickets!

Trevor Anning was the most successful as he returned figures of 3-25 fro 8.1 overs whilst Gary Chappell’s ten overs produced figures of 2-25.

The Exmouth reply suffered a double early blow with both sandy Allen and Andy Buzza back in the Maer ground pavilion with just 11 runs on the board. However a half century partnership for the third wicket between David Lye (29) and skipper Richard Baggs (22) settled the run chase down.

After both departed in quick succession the two main wicket takers, Anning and Chappell, took charge adding 57 for the fifth wicket before Anning was dismissed for 35.

Chappell though remained at the crease to see the home side to a comfortable victory with four wickets and just over five overs to spare.

The win, coupled with a surprise defeat for Sidmouth at basement side Budleigh Salterton means that Exmouth sit second in the table at the halfway mark of the season.

This Saturday they head for Kensham Park, Bradninch, a ground that all-rounder Gary Chappell knows very well and don’t bet about the young man playing a leading role in this next game as Exmouth look to get even closer to table topping Bovey Tracey when they face the third bottom Mid Devon side.

Premier Division top six;

1. Bovey Tracey 9 8 1 0 156

2. Exmouth 9 6 3 0 141

3. Sidmouth 9 6 3 0 132

4. Exeter 9 6 3 0 128

5. Plymouth 9 5 3 0 106

6. North Devon 9 4 5 0 97
