Budleighs fine start to the season continued as they bagged an 18-point success with a 77-run victory over Plympton at their Harewood Park home.
It was two of the club’s close season signings who were amongst the top scorers with the bat as Budleigh. Player-coach Ben Phillips top scored with a 52-ball, six boundary 44 whilst Robert Craze, batting at number three, one before Phillips, scored a patient 38 and skipper Joel Murphy provided a solid four boundary unbeaten 30 to see the side to their closing total of 194-8 after 50 overs.
Phillips (3-21), Murphy (2-15) and Craze (1-12) then combined to pick up six of the home wickets as Plympton were bowled out for 117 in just 29 overs. Luke Petersen returned splendid figures of 3-16 from a six over spell.
The victory, a third successive triumph for Murphy’s men sees them sit top of the fledgling A Division table and a return to the top flight is very much top of the Ottermouth agenda.
Match day four sees the side entertain a Hatherleigh side who are without win so far having lost both games they have played – their third outing, at Bradninch on match day two, was abandoned without a ball being bowled in anger.
