Budleigh Salterton marked the halfway stage of the Francis Clark Devon League season with their first victory as they defeated reigning champions and once again title chasing Sidmouth by three wickets at Ottermouth, writes Stephen Birley.
The victory was achieved thanks to an outstanding display with the ball as they bundled out the visiting side for just 140 in 34.1 overs.
The die was cast early on for a special day for the Ottermouth faithful when James Burke knocked over the stumps of Sidmouth opener Liam Lewis.
Matt Kidd then bagged a brace and Burke picked up a second wicket as three more fell with the score board showing 31!
It was soon 52 for five, and quickly six as Bob Dawson got in on the wicket taking act.
Burke completed his ten overs with two more wickets to return the splendid figures of 4-41. At 86-9 the game looked set for an early finish, but the Sidmouth last pair added 54 before the final wicket was taken.
Burke then hit an unbeaten 42 and Seb Langridge chipped in with 33 as Budleigh claimed victory with three wickets and two overs remaining.
On Saturday Budleigh begin the second half of their league season with a trip to the team sitting immediately above them at the basement of the top flight, Cornwood. A second successive victory and the Ottermouth men could be out of the bottom two by stumps on Saturday!
