Budleigh were dealt a hammer blow in their bid to beat the drop in the Francis Clark Devon League when they were thumped by 143 runs at home to North Devon.

After the Instow side had scored 263-5 in their 50 overs, Budleigh were bundled out for 120 in 35.4 overs with only James Burke (52), White (12), Plowman (10) and skipper Murphy (10) into doubled figures.

The defeat leaves Budleigh bottom with 75 points, 13 fewer than second bottom Bradninch who host them in Mid Devon next Saturday (July 20). Third bottom Cornwood are now a worrying 29 points clear of the Ottermouth side.

Make sure of your copy of the Budleigh Journal – out next on Thursday, July 18, for a full match report and news from the other two senior sides at the Maer ground.
