Budleigh Salterton and Ottery St Mary B have met twice this season in the East Devon Youth Cricket League U11s Hard Ball Pairs, in which each team commence their inning with 100 runs, and on both occasions one team have lost many wickets (lives) whilst the other very few, writes SpursTom.

In the first meeting Budleigh Salterton started well with Jake Yarwood and George Messom putting on 28 loosing no wickets (lives), but after them wickets went tumbling.

Ross Sheal and Toby Whitfield lost two, as did the third pair Harry Cartwright and Milo Goodwin-Coombes, finally three dismissals occurred with Joseph Appleby and Charlie Levi at the crease.

So, although the team scored a grand 177 runs, the fact that they lost seven wickets reduced the total to 142.

Ottery St Mary B feared very much better scoring 170 runs, with only a run out as a solitary blemish, giving them a score of 165 to triumph by 23 runs.

In the return match Ottery St Mary B were pegged back by all the Budleigh Salterton bowlers. Louis Hayman with three wickets for three runs, Rory Craib (2-6), Joe Tozer (2-7 – including a two-wicket maiden!), Milo Goodwin-Coombes (1-7) and Leo Knowles (1-11).

Though Rosie Baker, Ross Sheal and Tom Real did not take any wickets, they too gave away very little runs in a score of 121.

All Budleigh’s pairs contributed worthy partnerships to the reply.

Tom Real and Louis Hayman led off with 35, Ross Sheal and Joe Tozer (26), Leo Knowles and Milo Goodwin-Coombes (8), before Rosie Baker and top scorer Rory Craib mustered 29 at the end to bring the total to 198 to secure Budleigh a 77-run triumph and sweet revenge!
