BUDLEIGH under-11s went into their derby meeting with Exmouth in superb form having won each of their previous five outings this term.

Captain Fin Marks lost the toss and had to bat first on a slow looking St Peters School pitch.

The Exmouth openers found a good line and length and Budleigh lost Ed Doble for seven in the early exchanges. This bought James White to the crease and he carried his bat right through the rest of the innings while wickets fell around him. Marks went for 11, brilliantly caught by Jack Sawden. Alex Taylor made a brisk 15 and Jack England 17, before he was clean bowled by Rosie Short.

The innings came to a close of 135-8 with White unbeaten on 30. The pick of the Exmouth bowling was the effort of Richard Hall who claimed 2-18 and there were a brace of excellent catches held by young Sawden.

The Exmouth reply was held up by a superb opening spell of bowling by Joe Gore and Eddie White. The pair found their line and length to great effect and, between them; they sent the first three Exmouth batsmen back to the boundary rope. White finished with 2-14 and the ever impressive Gore bowled his four overs without conceding a single run, sending down four maidens and finishing with figures of 1-0!

Tom Oxland (1-11) and jack England (1-15), continued the Budleigh attack before the skipper Marks turned to spin, deploying himself at one end and Jake Stubbings at the other. Marks took 2-2 and Stubbings returned excellent figures of 3-7 as the final Exmouth wicket fell on 48 leaving Budleigh winners by 787 runs and completing their sixth successive success of the season.

Budleigh's all conquering youngsters are next in action on June 24 when they face Axminster at Ottermouth with a 6.30pm start.
