BUDLEIGH Under-11s left the Ottermouth pitch under the impression that they had won their Bradleys East Devon Youth League game against Whimple by a single run in a thrilling contest, only for the score books to reveal that the match had actually ended in a tie!Batting first the home side scored 121-5, led by another impressive innings from Finlay Marks (30 ret'd). Alex Craib hit 19 and Jack England, who only faced four deliveries hit a vital 11.The wicket takers for the visitors were Rafa, Ted Wilson, Alex Giles and Matthew Parker. When Whimple batted they were led by Ted Wilson (25) and Ben Lawrence (15) whilst the cameo knock of Dillon Fielding (6no) delivered what ultimately proved to be a tied game. Joe Gorr claimed three wickets, Jack England bagged a brace and there was one for Glen Davison whilst Ed Doble claimed a smart catch at deep square leg. Budleigh Coach Mike England said: "It was a thrilling game and somewhat bizarre at the end as the side trooped off under the impression they had claimed the win, only to find out it was not the case. The one thing that did not please was me was the enormous figure of 66 extras we managed to hand over to them. That is certainly what needs to be addressed next time out.
