Budleigh Salterton had previously winless South Devon under the cosh in the South Devon League but couldn’t finish them off and paid the price!

Budleigh were all out for 173 – R Meizner (28) just pipping D Short (23) for top scorer.

South Devon looked down and out at 103 for eight after Sam Fereday (3-31) and O Clarke (3-37) had undone the good work done by opener Jamie Allen (58).

Ninth-wicket pair Jon Martin and Harrison Moss put on 48 – Moss propping his end up for three runs.

Last man Conrad Sutcliffe came in with 21 needed with a mission to hang around while Martin had a go.

With the target down to two to win and Martin at the non-striker’s end, former Journal sports editor Sutcliffe stroked left-armer Alex Taylor through the covers for four to win the match.

Martin finished unbeaten on 60.
