EXMOUTH Thirds hosted Clyst Hydon in a D Division East game.

EXMOUTH Thirds hosted Clyst Hydon in a D Division East game.

The match was played at Plymtree which meant a much shorter journey to the venue for the opposition as Plymtree, is just along the Mid Devon country lanes from Clyst Hydon!

With the away side sporting a record of five wins and one defeat in their opening six games, it was always going to be a tough encounter for Exmouth.

However, they have also been having a fine season and, despite being asked to bat, were hopeful of posting a total that would perhaps give them a chance of banking a fourth win of the campaign.

It turned out to be a contest dominated by the ball, with eighteen wickets falling from a sum total of 332 runs and, at stumps, it was Clyst Hydon celebrating a narrow two wicket victory.

Grant Northover was the top scorer for Exmouth with 29 hard-earned runs, whilst the next highest contribution to the cause came from a very welcome 21 extras!

The Exmouth innings came to a close on 115, with Will Moore and Pat Harris claiming eight wickets between them for the villagers.

Faced with such a low total to defend, it was imperative that the Exmouth bowlers delivered good, consistent, line and length and they did not disappoint, especially two of their youngsters.

Ollie Dawe (3-24) and Nicky Bolt (3-26), picked up all but two of the Clyst Hydon wickets as their run chase ended successfully on 117-8.

Exmouth remain fourth in the D Division East table and, this coming Saturday, they once again travel out to Plymtree for a home game when they meet an Exeter III side who sit two places and ten points below them in the table.
