Bird leads Woodbury Under-13 to cup success over Topsham St James

Woodbury won their Devon County Sports Under-13 Cup match against Topsham St James by a margin of 23 runs.
Tom Bird top scored with 40 before having to retire with his wicket still in tact. Bird struck six 4s in his knock whilst opener Sam Corney hit a pair of 4s in his innings of 24.
Gwyn Parker chipped in with an unbeaten 19 that included four 4s as Woodbury closed on 128-4 at the end of their 20 overs. Corney and Bird put on an impressive 675 for the third wicket.
Leon Ryder-Potter (2-5), Jim Shepherd (1-15) and Larence Joy (1-13) claimed wickets for the Saints.
The Topsham reply ended on 105-8 with Charlie Goodfellow’s 39, a knock that included five 4’s, being the top offering.
There was also a useful contribution of 13 from Ben Haigh, he and Goodfellow putting on 44 for their side’s second wicket.
Connell Deehan-Jackson took 3-14 and there were single wickets for three other Woodbury bowlers, Ben Matten (1-18), Rory Haddow (1-8) and Gwyn Parks (1-11).
Alex Giles kept wicket well for the Woods and claimed a smart stumping whilst there were catches held by William Bird and Gwyn Parks.
