Topsham St James girls Under-12s defeated Ottery St Mary on their own pitch in a Bradleys East Devon Youth League game.

Batting first the Saints girls powered their way to an imposing total of 347-4 in their allotted overs.

An aggressive opening stand by Annie Burdick and Daisy Bishop laid solid foundations which were built on tremendously by Maddie Ross and Isabella Kay and thereafter by the pairings of Sophie Ewin and Katy Baylis and JoJo Baylis and Ellen Billingsley, the latter scoring 32 runs in quick time.

When the Otters replied JoJo Baylis opened the attack in style, taking a wicket in her second over; this was followed by Katy Baylis taking two wickets within another two overs.

The final bowling pair saw Isabelle Baylis serve up accuracy and economy for her spell, but the performance of the day was by India Ross who took two wickets, both clean bowled – her first wickets in competitive cricket.

The Otters were restricted to 294-5 leaving the Saints winners by a margin of 53-runs.
