Clyst St George suffered a seventh defeat of the D Division East season and, with the Tolchards Devon League having reached the halfway stage of the campaign, the Bohea Field remain in the bottom three.

Their latest defeat was by a margin of three wickets up at North Devon 2nds.

Clyst St George skipper Attwater won the toss and opted to bat first, but opener Simon Burrell fell to a catch having scored the teams only run at that stage! Jayakrupakar Nallala joined Chris Ferro and they took the total to 53 when Ferro fell for 26.

Gareth Hall was next man in – and out - trapped leg before for five and it was soon 93-4 with skipper Attwater caught having scored 15.

Nallala was the fifth man down, caught off the 82nd delivery he faced, having scored 51 with six fours and one six. That left Clyst St George on 108-5 and it was soon 138-6 with Tom Wilson the man out for 15. Owen Walton joined Adam Ykhlef and the pair added 34 for the seventh wicket which was that of Ykhlef, caught for a run-a-ball 39.

There was another 20 runs added to the score for the loss of two wickets. Owen Walton was run out having scored 12 and George O’Dwyer was caught for one. It all left Clyst St George closing on 192-9 after 45 overs with the not out batsmen being Matt Knight and Ian Edworthy with seven and three respectively.

The home side’s run chase was hit by the early loss of two wickets with Clyst St George’s opening bowlers George O’Dwyer and Owen Walton both claiming a wicket to leave North Devon on 10-2 and it was soon 50-4 with Walton claiming two more wickets. However, the middle order hit back and the fifth wicket saw 84 added before skipper Attwater made the break through. Attwater struck twice more to leave North Devon on 161-7, but from then there were to be no further wickets as North Devon eased home to win by three wickets after 26.2 overs.

The bowling honours were shared by skipper Attwater (3-47 from 6.2 overs) and Owen Walton (3-61 from nine overs).

On Saturday (July 7) Clyst St George travel to bottom-of-the-table Uplyme and Lyme Regis who they beat comfortably when the sides met at the Bohea Field on the opening day of the season.
