Exmouth got the better of Sidmouth at the third time of asking this season when they beat them by three wickets after another compelling encounter between the teams, this time played out at a sun-kissed Maer ground.
Sidmouth batted first and closed on what looked a respectable 237-8 after their allotted 50-overs.
They had four batters who made starts, but none got more than the 49 from the bat of wicket keeper Pete Randerson whilst Liam Lewis, who had been the Exmouth nemesis in the area final of the County T20 six days before, fell to a Seb Benton catch off the bowling of Mark Orchard for 17. Three players, Trevor Anning, Gary Chappell and Lawrence Greenway each took a brace of wickets.
The run chase coming to a successful conclusion owed much to the bats of opener Sandy Allen and number four Benton. Both had produced similar knocks the week before at Bradninch and Allen went on to score 81, one fewer than Benton made.
It was left to Orchard and Chappell to see Exmouth home at 241-7 with five balls of then contest remaining.
The win keeps Exmouth tip by a single point from Bovey Tracey with Sidmouth now 19 points adrift of the Maer men with the season still to see seven more match days. This Saturday Exmouth host a Torquay side that surprised Exeter last weekend. Bovey Tracey travel to Plymouth whilst Sidmouth go to Cornwood.
