Budleigh Running Club is celebrating after the Couch to 5k group successfully ran their first ever 5k in Budleigh.
In the last 500 metres, runners from the rest of the club came out to run with them and cheer them on! Some were cheering in the street, others waited at the marquee in the garden of the Hub (Seachange), where there was a raucous cheer as the group turned the corner and ran towards the finish.
They then received a medal, and we celebrated with them with Prosecco provided free by Tesco in Budleigh. Alcohol Gel was provided by Ashbury Dental Care.
There were 10 people who completed the course, and they will go on to join the rest of the club. What has been fantastic is seeing people who had never run before, running through the streets of Budleigh, feeling proud of themselves for stepping outside their comfort zones and breaking out into a new sport.
Seeing those people thrive and enjoy the exercise, the new friendships and now becoming part of the running club is incredible. It has been a great thing for the town to see so many people running together every week from all aspects of the club.
Budleigh Runners was formed in October 2019 from a small group of people who enjoy running. The club has grown from strength to strength; shortly after starting to run together we quickly became affiliated and insured with the Association of Running Clubs.
Everyone has different goals, so we have something for different abilities. We have a wide range of people in our club, some who run marathons and even ultra-marathons, and some wanting to take it a little easier.
We have raised thousands of pounds for charity in the time we have been running, and we hope to do many more charity events in the future. We have also been able to help support people who needed it, to run by providing running kit who otherwise may have given up. These people have become some of our best runners. Our motto: 'There's a pace for everyone’.
