Budleigh sailor Ben Cornish has the ‘perfect day’ on day four of the 2018 Finn European Championships being held in Cadiz, Spain.

Ben, who started the week with a couple of finishes down the fleet, showed gradual improvement with finishes of seventh in races three and five and a fourth placed finish in race six, before he sailed to victory in both race seven and eight held on the Thursday of the championships.

After eight races, Ben lies eight overall with his score to date being 80 net points. The overall leader is Dutch sailor Nocholas Heiener who has so far had five top 10 finishes and so has 32 net points.

Second is another Brit – Edward Wright – with a net score of 37 points and third is New Zealander Josh Junior with 65 net points.

Speaking before race seven, Ben said: “I am enjoying the racing, the stronger winds certainly help me and it’s good to be getting some higher placings after the start of the week.”

With the back-to-back wins – Ben is the first person to achieve that particular feat at this years championships – he goes into the fifth day of racing (Friday) in a good position to be part of the top 10 who will contest the two Saturday double-points-races.

There are two races on Friday after which the top 10 will contest those two big races on Saturday to determine the destiny of the gold, silver and bronze medals.
