With Exmouth Town’s first team game at Bodmin Town falling foul of heavy rain in Cornwall, the spotlight fell on the Town Reserves and their Macron League Premier Division home meeting with Topsham Town.
A larger-than-usual crowd for a second team game was treated to Nathan Cooper and Southern Road club captain Dave Rowe in the home starting eleven and the supporters were treated to an entertaining game, one that Town won 5-0.
Town started the game brightly, playing some decent football on a heavy pitch and opened the scoring with a powerful header from Scott Partington.
Town then doubled the lead with some neat footwork and a clinical finish from Nathan Cooper.
After the break, it was all Town and two more goals from Cooper saw him to hat-trick and a second header from Partington made it five goals in all.
It must also be reported that Topsham goalkeeper Brad Evans made a number of excellent saves during the game, keeping the goal count to five!
The win, a first at home, and a fourth league win of the season, takes Town to 11th, three points and two places clear of the three re-election berths.
On Saturday (December 1), Town travel to Lyme Regis for a league encounter (2.15pm).
