Phear Park welcomed Gordon Short, who is celebrating his hundredth birthday by visiting various bowls clubs in Devon, raising money for Devon Air Ambulance by playing a member of each club.
To date, Gordon has already raised £3,500 of his £5,000 target. At Park, Gordon played five ends against our club President Peter Burch, and won by 6 shots to 4. Phear Park were pleased to make a donation to his cause, and wish him well in his future matches.
In the over 60s league, the A team won overall 34-26 at Exeter’s Belmont where our triple of Peter Burch, Dave Adams and Rod Davidson were convincing victors, 21-11.
At home to Madeira however, the team lost on both rinks, each by just the one shot. Sadly, the B team also lost on both rinks away to Bradninch.
Park fared better in a friendly, also at Bradninch, winning on all but one rink, with a total score of 61-53. Nigel Oates, Margo Allen and Mike Ebdon (17-11), Liz Nelson, Roland Heale and David Horne (15-14), and John Horne, Joan Cowing and Sarah Westacott (18-11) secured the victory.
With a busy Finals Weekend to come, which we shall be reporting on next week, that will only leave several traditional matches with which to wrap up this season for Park.
