MADEIRA Ladies Outdoor Captain, Carole Worth, was the star of the day when she and her team won the Opening Drive on April 23, writes Mary Ann Dowrick.The Madeira Ladies also had modest success against the Madeira Men on Saturday 25th when they won on two rinks and drew on another.Winning teams were skipped by Jackie Howle and Shelagh Smith while Annette Flockhart's team battled to a draw.The Ladies Outdoor section will be celebrating their 75th Anniversary this season, kicking off with a joint celebration with the DCLBA on Saturday, May 2.Madeira will put up eight rinks to play against the County ladies for what promises to be an enjoyable day, during which several new county bowlers will be awarded their County badge and blazer.Four of Madeira Ladies' County bowlers have been called to trials for the Johns Trophy squad. Sue Harriott, Angela Denner, Jan Roberts and Liz Smerdon will attend the first of three trials on April 28.Sue Harriott and Liz Smerdon have also been invited to trial for England on May 16, and best wishes to all the ladies from everyone connected with Madeira bowling club.Coaching for new bowlers begins tomorrow evening (Friday, May 1) with a start time of 6.30pm. Participants are advised to wear comfortable clothing, whilst shoes and equipment will be provided.In the event of rain, the coaching session will move indoors. All prospective new bowlers will be made most welcome, so come on down.
