THE Budleigh Buzzards' six-point win over Madeira Blues took them from bottom to mid-table in the Symes, Robinson & Lee Evening League.Rod Freer, Tony Stone and John Dill won 19-11 while Rod Davidson's triple, leading 16-10 after 13 ends, survived Francis Newton's late surge to finish 18-16 up.Sidmouth lost heavily to leaders Exonia on both rinks and by an aggregate score of 44-17.The Falcons met their match when they played the Hawks and were defeated 30-38. Richard Cooper, Peter Burch and David Evans were the architects of the Hawks' victory. The four points earned consolidated their second place.On the second rink, Terry Kelly's triple scrambled over the line 19-17 to salvage two points for the Falcons.The South Hams club won the latest fixture in the Over-60s' County Trophy, with an aggregate score of 76-60, thanks to a good performance by their home sides.Back at Budleigh things were more positive. Budleigh skips Brian Crook and Rod Davidson, in spite of facing strong opposition, led their sides to victory by five shots apiece .David Evans is through to the last eight in the county unbadged singles championship.Facing Dave Hoen of Tiverton, a bowler of no little ability, David won a tight match on the 22nd end 21-20.Budleigh won a three-rink friendly at Sidmouth with a combined score of 66-54.Ron Tyler's side of Don Huish, Ken Thomas and Dave Helman took the lead on the eighth end and remained in front, winning 26-15.Gerry Roberts' team also won (21-18), while the third rink lost their match on the last end by just two shots.
