An ‘Individual Stableford Qualifier’, was the format for the latest seniors event at Woodbury Park, writes Carole Pye.
With the ladies’ inter-county golf week being held on the Oaks course the seniors had to play their roll-up on the shorter Acorns, which resulted in quite high scores.
The winner, with 46 points, was Colin Burford, closely followed by Derek Knight on 45.
After a week of high quality golf in superb weather the Ladies’ Inter County teams played their regional finals matches. The six teams, Devon, Dorset, Cornwall, Somerset, Gloucestershire and Wiltshire played two rounds each day with foursomes in the morning and singles in the afternoons. What a delight to watch such accomplished players, with ages mainly in the teens and a few older heads. After five days of golf, the eventual winners were Gloucestershire who will go through to the national finals later in the year at Wilmslow.
The weekend competition was an individual stableford again played in ideal conditions.
The winner of the first division, with 40 points, was Paul Mullerworth ahead of Paul Reed (38).
The second division was won by Ian Kirk (37) followed by Erik Nielsen just one point behind on 36.
Stuart O’Higgins with a score of 44 claimed the honours in the third division with Paul Crocock (40) the runner-up.
The ladies were out in force for the weekend competition. After count-back, Jan Morrison (33) was declared the winner of the silver division just nudging out Paula O’Neill. With a score of 38 points Sandra Pritchard took the bronze division ahead of Carol Thomas (35).
