Budleigh Ladies continued their recent fine form with an Over-50s win against Topsham.

Budleigh Ladies staged an Over-50s League game with the visit of Topsham, writes Pat Pearson.

Budleigh managed to gather four points from the meeting.

Ann Cottle skipped Margaret Ratcliffe and Teresa Rivers to a 20-13 win, which was very much down to their scoring a brace of fours on the final ends.

There was no such success for team-mates Pat Pearson, Lilian Grainger and Celia Mangeng (skip).

They struggled in the early stages and found themselves 0-10!

At this stage they looked set for a real struggle but they managed to stage a remarkable recovery, boosted by a magnificent six, to see the scores back level at 14-14 after 13 ends.

However, Topsham pulled ahead again and eventually sealed a 19-17 victory.

The overall match, though, ended in Budleigh’s favour by five shots at 37-32.

In other news, a heartfelt three cheers for Maggie Dance and Celia Mangeng on getting through to the Section Finals stage of the Over-55 Pairs.

The pair beat local rivals Sue Harriott and Christine Macauley, who conceded the game at 16 ends.

Budleigh bowlers, these fellow members deserve your support in the Section Finals!

Club competitions are now being played off in preparation for Finals’ Day which is set for Saturday, August 21, and this is always an event to look forward to.
