Budleigh slip to defeat at Madeira

BUDLEIGH LADIES' BOWLS: IN THE National 2 Wood Triples Janet Mitchell, Ann Cottell and Dianzee Lowe had a good win in spite of being 11-0 down at one stage of the game.
Budleigh played a friendly game at Madeira which proved to be too friendly to their opponents as they lost by 14 shots overall, the teams being Audrey Taylor, Dorothy MacConville, Diane Dixon and Jean Coates 11-24; Marilyn Jackson, Bunty Hudson, Avis Bartlett and Joan Shaw 17-24; Lilian Grainger, Pat Dowen, Maggie Dance and Dawn Graham 20-14.
A loss of 7 shots seemed to be again the fate for Joan Shaw and her team of Lorna Autton and Jane Hincks when she played Marilyn Vessey at Honiton in the County triples, the final result 14-21.
In the first game of the County Foxlands league Budleigh played Axminster. The two teams playing at home had good results, Dianzee Lowe with her team of Lilian Grainger, Avis Bartlett and Dawn Graham were 29-16, and Lorna Autton, Bunty Hudson, Diane Dixon and Jean Coates 25-14. The two rinks away did not fare so well losing overall by 12 shots but, with the 24 shots in hand from the home teams were the victors.
The away teams were Marilyn Jackson, Dorothy MacConville, Maggie Dance and Joan Shaw 16-19, Pat Pearson, Audrey Taylor, Jane Hincks and Ann Cottle 15-24.
Recently a most enjoyable evening Beetle Drive was held at the Club with a Cottage Pie Supper provided by members of the Ladies' Indoor committee.
The evening was enjoyed by 52 members and, together with the proceeds from a raffle, £250 was raised and donated to Breast Cancer Research.
