Budleigh Salterton Under-18s bowed out of the Devon County Youth Cup following a 6-1 defeat at an impressive Clyst Valley.
Despite the excitement of a return to football, unfortunately for the young Robins it was a disappointing end the season for both themselves and the management team of Mike Graham and Paul O’Brien.
The Robins’ solitary goal came from Sam Diprose, who headed home the rebound from his own shot.
It was evident that Clyst Valley had already had some playing time and looked sharp, whereas the Budleigh boys were just not match fit, plus having to play an outfield player as an emergency goalkeeper.
Budleigh can still be proud of their performances in this reduced season, playing four league matches, winning three and drawing one, scoring 17 goals (shared by nine players), conceding three. They were also involved in two League Cup matches, one victory and one defeat, goals for 14 (these too were shared by nine players), goals against six.
