Budleigh Salterton teenager Nicole Thackray admits her chance to share a court with US Open and Olympic champion Andy Murray at the ATP World Tour Finals cannot come quickly enough.

After winning a nationwide competition from 2,500 children across the country the 16-year-old will be one of 30 Barclays Ball Kids at the O2 Arena in London from November 5 to 12.Thackray spent her half-term at The Hampshire Racquets and Health Club being put through her paces ready for her week in the spotlight in the capital. And while the Colyton Grammar School pupil is expecting a tough week’s work at the O2, Thackray can’t wait to get acquainted with Murray and the rest of the world’s top players.

She said: “The training was pretty tiring, especially on my legs which were really aching but it was so fun at the same time, I just can’t wait for the actual tournament to get started. I have been to watch the tournament before at the O2 and it is amazing, to have all the best players going against each other is so special. So to think that I am actually going to be on the same court as them is amazing. I applied last year and was not chosen to be in the squad so I cannot wait for this time around.”
