Budleigh finished the outdoor season in style when they travelled to Paignton to play a six rink mixed triples and came away with a 111-99 victory winning on four of the rinks in the process, writes Paul Griffin.

Budleigh’s top performing rink in this match with a 28-13 victory was John Vanstone, Diane Dixon and Alan Pearson. Earlier in the week Budleigh travelled to Lyme Regis to play a five rink mixed friendly and also came away with a victory.

Unfortunately I cannot report on the details of this match because the score cards seem to have been mislaid on the long journey home!!

In final Men’s match of the season Budleigh were on the road again travelling to near rivals Phear Park to play a four rinks triples friendly. However Park were in no mood to be that friendly winning on two rinks and tying on another to give them a 75-62 overall victory.

Budleigh’s only winning rink was skipped who won 26-19 was skipped by Paul Griffin with Tony Lim and Greg Fish.

Also, during a busy final week on the greens, Budleigh entertained the Bristol Tourists, Eastville, in a seven rink mixed friendly with the tourists proving in to be the slightly stronger by winning on four rinks and by 133-124 overall.

The home side’s best performing rink in this match with a 24-10 victory was Wally Nickels, Gordon Mansfield, Greg Fish and skip Ralph Lawson.

The final silverware of the season, Budleigh’s internal round robin Centenary Cup competition, was won by the triple of Paul Griffin, Gordon Thomas and skip Diane Dixon with a score of plus 22.

So, just as the forecasters are predicting a heat wave its goodbye to the Outdoor Season and hello to the Indoor one in which we wish our fellow bowlers the best of fortunes.
