Nicole Thackray, a Year 10 student from Colyton Grammar School, has been selected to be a ball-girl at the Barclays ATP World Tour Tennis Finals.

15-year-old Nicole, from Budleigh Salterton, was chosen as one of just thirty youngsters aged between 12 and 16, following a nationwide search for a team of ‘Barclays Ball Kids’.

After taking part in regional trials, Nicole was invited to London at the end of April for final selection from 100 finalists who were put through a challenging six hour test of ball skills, speed, endurance and concentration.

Throughout the day, the participants had the chance to pick up some top tips from Andy Murray’s former coach Mark Petchey, as well as former World Number 4 Greg Rusedski.

Nicole said: “The trials were more difficult than I was expecting but I am so happy that I made it to the final thirty, especially as there were thousands who attended the regional trials.”

Nicole and the rest of the Barclays Ball Kids Squad 2012 will be trained this autumn before joining the world’s top eight male players on court at the ATP World Tour Finals at The O2, London, in November
