BUDLEIGH's young tennis star Isabella Brown played recently in the HSBC Road to Wimbledon Consolation National Tennis Finals where she came up against 32 other aspiring young players.
The youngster, playing in the under-14 age group began her week long involvement in the competition as one of 64 young tennis players representing every tennis playing county in the United Kingdom.
The event began with a Sunday practice followed, the following day, by a round robin involving four players with the top two in each group going through to the main draw and the bottom two in each section moving into the Consolation Finals.
Isabella narrowly missed the main draw being equal on matches won, to the second placed girl, but, just lower on sets percentage. So in third place in her round robin box, she proceeded to the knock-out consolation draw of 32 starting on the fourth day of the competition.
She went on to play two matches on that day, and one each on the following two days before getting through to a grand final.
With almost perfect weather all week the girls played on the grass courts of Wimbledon - mainly on the Aorangi practice courts, but Isabella did get one practice session on court 19 in front of the most famous of all tennis courts in the world - the Centre Court !
The final, which saw the youngster narrowly edged out, was played with umpire and line judges
