In the first competitive match of the New Year, despite winning on two of the four rinks contested, Budleigh lost to Padbrook Park in the County Trophy on overall aggregate scores.

Harry Vanstone’s rink of Tony Lim, Mike Shaw and Tony Stone led from start to finish in winning 23-17 and Ron Tyler’s rink of Wally Nickels, Dick Mitchell and Mike Reader won a closely fought contest 19-15. Both of Budleigh’s away rinks lost.

Budleigh hosted neighbours Madeira in the first friendly of the New Year but the visitors proved to be the stronger winning 47-36 with the rinks shared one each.

In the Symes Robinson & Lee sponsored Budleigh Evening League Madeira Blue beat the Budleigh Eagles 55-25 winning on both rinks in the process.
