Promotion to Division Two for the Budleigh men in the Exeter and District Over-60s Triples League was always going to be a new ball game for the team this season and wins and points have been hard to come by in a more competitive environment, writes David Roberts.
Budleigh were promoted in second place last term, just missing out to champions Exeter St Thomas, so last week’s fixture against them in the higher league was always going to be an important one and it was the Budleigh men who took the overall win 36-27 to bank another six valuable points.
On rink one, Tony Barnes, Peter Hillman and skip Andrew Cardy raced into a 17-2 lead at the halfway stage with some of the best bowling of the season and whilst all three played well Tony Barnes as lead was outstanding as they cruised to a 26-5 victory.
The rink of Bill Barber, Paul Griffin and David Roberts never really got going and lost by twelve shots but kept the deficit down to ensure the overall win.
