For the second week in succession, Budleigh Salterton FC Ladies welcomed Crediton United FC Ladies to their Greenway Lane ground, on this occasion DWFL Eastern Division league points were at stake, writes SpursTom.

Having lost the cup encounter the previous week, Crediton were out for revenge and the visitors began on the front foot, putting pressure on the Budleigh defence with some excellent attacking play.

However, not only did the Robinettes survive the brief onslaught, but actually went ahead when a Kirsty Brown uncleared corner fell to Maisie Smith, who made no mistake with the opportunity for a 1-0 lead.

Five minutes later, another set-piece led to a second goal, a direct free-kick from Kirsty Brown hitting the target. The visitors were denied from cutting back the deficit with ‘keeper Ashleigh Cowan pushing the ball over the bar.

It was not too long before she was beaten by the dangerous Maddie Taylor, taking the game into the break, with her Crediton side only 2-1 down.

The second period began with both sides on the attack. First to be rewarded on 61 minutes was Maisie Smith following a corner (3-1). More goals had to come, and between the 75th and 87th minutes, we were treated to four.

Chey Coakey for the visitors 75th min (3-2), the Robinettes’ Tuhla Williams with silky footwork in the 79th min (4-2), two minutes later Chey Coakley noticed Budleigh’s keeper had advanced too far off her line, sent a superb lob for Crediton’s 3rd (4-3), and to top it all another well placed direct free kick from Kirsty Brown completed the scoring with Budleigh’s 5th (5-3).

There were several worthy performers for Budleigh in a fine match, deserving mention are Maisie Smith, Kayleigh Roberts, Tuhla Williams and set-pieces specialist Kirsty Brown.

Budleigh’s squad: Ashleigh Cowan, Kayleigh Roberts, Kath Parsley, Beth Acca, Lucy Burch, Maisie Smith, Kate Palmer, Bec Long, Tuhla Williams, Kirsty Brown, Jen Cordwell, Chloe Davied, Jordyn Ward, Chloe Williams, Jasmine Case and Lucy Gilbert (who sadly lost her father recently, and both teams joined in a minute clapping in his memory before kick-off).
