Archant

The ladies' singles final proved to be a great finale at the conclusion of a wonderful tournament week at Budleigh, writes Pat Pearson.

With no Budleigh player to cheer on, a long-time favourite local competitor carried our hopes. It soon became obvious that Carol Binmore, from Honiton, faced strong opposition from Audrey Barstow , who had played very well all week, to reach the final.

Indeed, at the start, Barstow raced into an 8-1 lead after five ends.

She continued this progress to lead 15-5 after 13 ends.

This was when Binmore upped her game, lengthened the jack, and began to reduce the deficit.

It became a wonderful tussle of catch-up bowls and either player could have won the game.

However it was the Binmore recovery which gathered further momentum to take her to victory at 21-18.
