Matches in the ladies' Devon Lane Trophy competition are always very challenging for the Budleigh teams and wins are difficult to come by, so a convincing win over ISCA ladies 87-56 was the highlight of the week, writes David Roberts.

Played on a home and away basis, the result was even more impressive as Budleigh won on both rinks away.

Dorothy MacConville, Eileen Burston and Marilyn Jackson took control of their rink halfway through to run out winners 30-8, restricting the opposition to just one shot over the last ten ends.

Bunty Hudson, Margaret Avery and Dawn Graham in a much tighter match won 20-13, taking a nine shot lead from the start, and whilst there was a spirited comeback from ISCA, six shots from the Budleigh team over the last few ends consolidated the lead.

On the home rinks there was a win for Melissa Camp, Joan Cowing and skip Joan Shaw 20-16 as they fended off a late comeback from their opponents, and the rink of Ann Vincent, Lilian Grainger and Di Dixon were unlucky - going into the last end they were winning 17-16 only for the ISCA ladies to score three shots and take the rink 19-17. Nevertheless a great result for the club.
