Budleigh ladies edged out by one shot

PUBLISHED: 13:14 20 January 2011

There was a thrilling conclusion to the game at Budleigh last week when the Ladies were beaten by a single shot when they entertained the DCLIBA patrons side.

BUDLEIGH Salterton Ladies had some special guests at the club last Thursday.

The Ladies entertained the Senior Vice Captain and two rinks

of DCLIBA Patrons from clubs around Devon.

Amongst clubs represented were Axminster, Torbay and Topsham.

Jean Coates’ rink, with Rita de Selincourt, Dorothy MacConville and Marilyn Jackson, got off to a good start and were eight shots ahead after eleven ends.

However they hit the buffers on the 13th end to finish the match 16-24 down!

On the other rink, Dianzee Lowe (skip), together with Dawn Graham, Bunty Hudson and Ann Cottle, were neck and neck with nine shots each at the tenth end before the Budleigh bowlers produced a powerful finish to seal a 20-13 victory.

At the close of play it was the DCLIBA Patrons who emerged as winners, albeit by a single shot.

It was certainly a thrilling game, and indeed, an afternoon enjoyed by all who were present.
