Budleigh proved to be in excellent collective form when they entertained Honiton in a two rink mixed friendly, writes Don Huish.

Di Dixon, together with David Tomlinson, Elizabeth Cole and Ron Tyler, found themselves trailing 5-1 after five ends but then they took charge, conceding just there further ends to the visitors on their way to an emphatic 28-10 success.

Meanwhile Gerry Roberts’s rink were always ahead before completing a 20-11 victory.

Teams from Exonia, Madeira and Sidmouth, were all in action last week in the Symes, Robinson and Lee evening league.

Madeira Blues retained their position as league leaders taking four points from Sidmouth thanks to Bob Burch’s triple’s winning margin of 15 shots.

The Buzzards, the sole home side to play, were on top form, taking maximum points from their encounter with the Madeira Reds. After a close game, Paul Griffin skipped his trio to win 19-16 while John Vanstone, with Rob Freer and Derek Stanley were never headed after the fifth end and raced away to finish as 26-13 winners.

Sidmouth, in their second match of the week, failed to add to their points tally but pushed Exonia all the way before going down by only three shots

Richard Cooper’s rink of Tim Holding, Gordon Mansfield and Alan Purdham scored a notable victory in the highly competitive Sidmouth evening league, beating second-placed Lyme Smugglers by 24 shots to 12

The Club’s Christmas Dinner, held at the East Devon Golf Club, was a great success. Among the happy raffle prize winners were Sue Job, Mike Reader. and Ron Tyler and we have to thank Jane Hincks and Lilian Grainger for organising a great evening.
