There was a shock result this week in the Symes, Robinson and Lee evening league when the Budleigh Hawks, from the foot of the table, beat Exonia who are already guaranteed to end the season as champions.

Exonia triumphed on one rink by 18-14, but the Hawks won overall by two shots thanks to Peter Burch, Dick Mitchell and Leighton Burston whose final score was 23-17.

Two home friendlies yielded one win and one loss for Budleigh.

An all-male encounter with Sidmouth ended successfully when Tony Lim, Archie Autton, Paul Griffin and skip Ron Tyler won by 23 to 14.

On the second rink, Sidmouth’s Ron Cook’s side overcame their opponents by 21-15 but the result was a narrow overall victory for the home side by three shots.

The mixed game against visitors from Dawlish saw Budleigh draw on one rink and lose by ten shots on the other.

Skipped by Diane Dixon, Joan Cowing, Alistair McGregor and Richard Cooper were evenly matched by their opponents and the 17-all draw appeared a fair result

In the club’s internal championships Leighton Burston has had a very good week winning both his singles semi-final match and his pair’s semi-final when skipping Don Huish.

The Richard Cooper / John Dill pairing are already through to the final and this same duo will now meet to decide who will be the second singles finalist.
