Budleigh gearing up for theie 2013 Tournament

The last two home friendly matches before the staging of the Budleigh annual tournament ended in one win and one defeat.
The first was a four rink mixed triples encounter with Exonia which Budleigh won 80-48.
Peter Norman, Jean watts and Peter Cooper were the biggest winners on plus 19 followed by Arthur Morgan, plus 13 and Stuart Butler plus 8.
On a beautiful sunny afternoon, Beckenham and Bromley tourists proved too strong for their hosts at 191-161.
Largest winning margin of the home rinks was the 13 shots achieved by Ann Cottle, skipping Don Huish, Stuart Spencer and Avril Barrett. followed by Diane Dixon, plus 8, Joan Shaw plus six and Peter Burch, who kindly brought a rink from Phear Park, on plus thee.
In the third division of the Over-60s triples league Budleigh’s A squad have gained 10 points from their latest matches and now hold fourth place.
A home fixture versus North Tawton ended in a 37-all draw. Gerry Roberts Paul Griffin and Archie Autton won their 28-18 and all but overcame the 10 shot deficit from the second rink!
The squad then travelled to Morchard Bishop and shocked the league leaders, winning 40-30.
Once again, the chief architect of victory was Archie Autton who was in great form and guided Paul Griffin and Allan Cottle to a 26-9 win.
In Division Seven, the B team had a fine home win over Belmont B by a margin of 17 shots. Skip, Mike Shaw steered Don Huish, and Alan Pearson to a 23-12 victory, having lead throughout. Tony Stone’s side then guaranteed maximum points by winning by six shots.
