Last week was another busy one for the Budleigh bowlers, writes Don Huish.

In the second division of the Exonia evening league, Paul Griffin’s rink of John Vanstone, Alan Purdham and Peter Burch remained in front from the opening end in their match and closed out a comprehensive 24-10 victory.

That makes it five successive wins for the team and places them firmly among the league’s front runners.

Local rivals, Phear Park, found the home side on top form when they visited to contest a two rink friendly.

David Tomlinson, Alan Flather, Richard Cooper and skip Gerry Roberts chalked up a 31– 8 victory while Burges Stace’s rink, all-square after 18 ends, scored three singles on the run-in to secure a 17-14 win.

A three rink friendly at Sidmouth ended with the hosts winning on two rinks but losing by nine shots on aggregate.

Chief architect of Budleigh’s success was Alan Cottle who skipped Gordon Mansfield, Peter Cooper and John Dill to a winning margin of 19 shots. .

In the Symes, Robinson and Lee evening league, the battle of the raptors was won by the Falcons who conquered the Hawks on both rinks.

Brian Moore, with Keith Edwards and Bob Gooch prevailed in a tight game by 21 shots to 18, and Burges Stace guided his trio to a runaway 29– 5 victory.
