Budleigh Salterton CC slightly upset the form book with a terrific all-round display in defeating Torquay in the A Division of Devon Cricket.
Torquay arrived as marginal favourites and looking to break into the top two places in the division but Budleigh laid down an early marker in the field, with Samuel Whitehead removing opener Reuben Stanley, caught and bowled for four.
Chris Kelmere (33) and Callum Stanley (57) responded with a fine third-wicket partnership of 59, with Kelmere eventually falling to the bowling of Jack England, Tom Oxland took the catch.
England then caught and bowled Tom Drake for 13 before a crucial run out from Doble ended the threatening innings of Stanley.
The game was poised on 125-4, with Torquay needing to find another partnership, and the Budleigh task all about chipping away at the middle order.
Charles Parkin took a vital catch from the bowling of Ed Doble to remove Harry Passenger for five and then a big wicket for Budleigh, as Harry Parkin displayed his safe hands to dismiss the dangerous Rob Shergold (29) from the bowling of England.
Budleigh kept up the pressure to eventually bowl out their visitors for 175, with England and Joel Murphy both finishing with three wickets.
The Budleigh reply was curtailed when Charles Parkin lost his wicket for three but Harry Parkin managed a steady 25, moving the score to 34-2 alongside Max Mejzner (15).
The loss of James Doble for one gave Torquay hope and the visitors were right in the game when Budleigh were reduced to 60-4.
Sam Whitehead (44 no) stepped forward to provide the batting composure Budleigh required from the middle order, while Ed Doble rattled off an entertaining 23 runs from 16 balls.
Tom Oxland lost his wicket for four but Lloyd Murrin (30) came in to steer Budleigh to within 29 runs of their target.
Will Oxland (15 no) joined Whitehead in the middle, as Budleigh ran out winners by three wickets. Budleigh now move on to the visit of Plympton on Saturday and a chance to move into the top five.
