Wins for Mo Bond in the ladies’ two-wood competition and also in the mixed pairs was a highlight of an exceptional two days of Budleigh Bowls Club finals action, writes David Roberts.
Mo narrowly defeated Joan Shaw 16-12 in the two-wood before pairing up with Gerry Roberts to defeat Di Dixon and Andrew Cardy 25-17 in the final of the mixed pairs.
Brian Summers became the club’s men’s champion after he defeated Paul Griffin 22-14 and David Roberts took the men’s two-wood title, coming from behind to win the last end and take the title with a 13-12 success.
Ann Vincent and Penny Weeks fought out a close three-wood (106) final with Ann holding off a spirited finish from Penny to win 110-99.
Brian Goddard and Andrew Cardy defeated Paul Griffin and Tony Lim 26-10 in the men’s pairs while, in the men’s handicap, Bryan Membery defeated Peter Cooper 21-15.
Penny Weeks and Di Dixon took the ladies’ pairs trophy, beating Margaret Ringsell and Mo Bond 26-16. Two finals are still to be played as Ann Vincent plays Di Dixon in the ladies’ championship and Tony Barnes plays Ralph Cartwright in the men’s novice cup.
Thanks to all members of the club for all the organisation of the weekend, especially Mo Bond, Brian and Anne Goddard and Joan Shaw.
